Know When To Ask For Help – This is essential. The web is full of articles just like this one where we are trying to find that key for helping you with your depression. However, there are certain types of depression that need professional help and the use of medication. If your depression has been ongoing for a couple of weeks it is time to ask for help
Keep A Journal – This may sound odd right off the bat but by writing the emotions that you are dealing this. Why I have always kept a journal is that it helps me to identify certain situation that may be triggering which will help me in the long run. The other side of this is the journal will also help your doctor or mental health therapist see how you are doing on a long term basis. It is difficult to tell your doctor or mental health therapist how you are doing in a ten minute meeting as key components may be missed.
Tell Your Doctor Everything – This is something I suck at. Too many appointments I went into his office and said the bare minimum just to get out of there a fast as I can. This did nothing to improve my depression and limited my doctor in his ability to help me. Again the journal went a long way to helping me for as soon as he asked I just handed the journal over
Prepare Multiple Meals At Once – The purpose behind preparing multiple meals at once is that there are going to be days that you do not want to cook. Depression has a way of sapping our energy. By preparing multiple meals at once we ensure that our bodies are getting the proper nutrition which will improve both our bodies and our minds
Leave Your House – This is a key element as too many of us are struck by the depression monster and all we want to do is curl up and let the world pass us by. By doing this we tend to forget that the world can be a pretty cool place and that there is more than the torment in our heads. The sun goes along way to making us feel better. It does not matter whether it is a ten minute walk or a brief car ride the fresh air will make you feel better.
Find Something That Makes You Happy – It is amazing the effect of a good book or movie can do for our depression. Again it works by getting out of our heads and away from the depression thoughts in our heads. I have certain movies I always watch that will never win any awards but they can always make me smile.

Don’t Ask For Help – I mentioned the opposite of this above and I need to say it again. Depression does not mean your weak and asking for help is so essential. When you are dealing with major depression disorder it is essential that you have as many tools as possible in order to win.
Stop Taking Your Medication – It amazes me how many people I have met over the years that suddenly stop taking their medication because they are feeling better. Chances are it is the antidepressants that is making them feel that way and soon it becomes really apparent.
Drinking Alcohol – Not only does drinking alcohol have potential side effects with any medication that you may be taking. Alcohol is also a depressant which causes mood swings to the negative.
Using Natural Remedies – I get that there are some natural remedies out there that will help with minor depression but they are few and far between. Certain natural remedies will also counteract with prescription medication in a negative manner making the depression worse. If you are not sure of the interaction, make sure to contact a pharmacist first.
Isolation – Isolation nearly killed me. I hid from family and friends for years trying to defeat major depression disorder on my own and I failed miserably. Not only are family and friends a great support system they can also watch for the danger signs that may save your life. Keeping yourself hidden away will do nothing but make your depression worse
